GRADE 6

With the end in sight, I am sure the Grade 6s are excited and apprehensive about what December brings, saying goodbye to old friends and facing the new beginnings that the Secondary School will bring them.

It is still a requirement that Grade 6 read every day as it is beneficial in all areas of their learning and not just with English. They can use their diaries to record what they read and how long they have been reading for.

Even though we are coming to the end, please encourage your child to complete homework from the booklets. We have also begun using our diaries again so extra homework is placed in these as well. You are welcome to use the diaries to communicate with me if you want to. I am also available after school to speak to anyone who wants to meet with me.

Please note that it is important that parents are still signing the booklets and diaries.

Grade 5/6 Integrated Studies

The students have participated in a research skill session with Emma, from the G.V. Library, who has showed them how to find books using the library catalogue through the web page. Next we will visit the library. It is recommended the students bring along their own library cards so they are able to borrow and put holds on books they need.

.

The topics for each grade level are:

Grade 5: Space and Light

They were given their space project during week one so I would hope they have been working on this. I am looking for innovative presentations which include the students not reading straight from their posters when presenting their findings, but for them to know their content well enough that they can speak about it without reading it. This means that they have information written in their own words which will be easier for them to remember.

The unit on Light will be a topic test. So this involves them completing class work as well as doing extra reading.

Grade 6: Geological Natural Disasters.

This will have an end of term topic test and include their bookwork.
